The Department of International Trade (DIT) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has been promoting the "Carbon Reduction Packaging Design for Exports" program since 2023, which has been well received by the domestic industry. From June 10 to 12 this year, MOFTEC organized the "Taiwan Image Europe" exhibition in Berlin, Germany, and set up a "Sustainable Packaging Zone" to showcase the achievements of carbon reduction packaging design and packaging materials developed using Taiwan's agricultural waste, which attracted the attention of Germans and stimulated enthusiastic exchanges and sharing.
Under the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the issue of packaging waste is becoming increasingly important, and EU regulations emphasize recycling, reuse, and banning single-use packaging, leading countries to follow suit. So far, we have assisted 116 manufacturers to improve their packaging. This year, we set up the "Sustainable Packaging Image Promotion Zone" at the Image Europe Taiwan exhibition to respond to the new thinking of Redesign and Redefine from a design perspective.
The packaging exhibited included products from Rexin International, Marox Industries, Neng Capital International, Archway Enterprises, Uniwell, renouvo, Auburn Electric Scissors, Hershey Musical Instruments, Yi-Jun Technology, Agricultural Testing Laboratories, and Industrial Technology Research Institute, etc. The products emphasized on recyclable packaging, reduced volume to improve transportation efficiency, and modular design, which were recognized by Germany. Bagasse straws and pineapple leaf fiber products attracted the interest of German buyers, leading to cooperation opportunities and boosting the confidence of enterprises.
The exhibition demonstrated Taiwan's determination and creativity in carbon-reducing packaging, and combined with international promotion, it enhanced MIT's international image.113 The second tier of applications for the exhibition will be open from June 1 to July 15, and interested enterprises are welcome to refer to the relevant information to promote the transformation of sustainable packaging.
