Initiated by a civil sustainability group, THE GREEN BOOK (TGB) is a zero-carbon guide to Taiwan's sustainable actions and solutions. Invited to the Presidential Office after the Lunar New Year, TGB presented its innovative business models and green transition achievements in recent years. The visit aimed to foster dialogue between the government, businesses, and civil society, creating new opportunities for Taiwan's sustainable development.
On February 6, the TGB executive team and the first cohort of the solution team visited the Presidential Office, where a professional guide introduced the history, culture, and architectural features of the building. Through this visit, they gained a deeper understanding of the connection between public policy and sustainable development. TGB plans to connect businesses, the government, and international partners to build Taiwan's green competitiveness. TGB Presents Sustainable Solutions at the Presidential Office Luo Wei-Ming, Founder and Chief Convener of TGB, stated in his speech that THE GREEN BOOK is the world's first zero-carbon guide to Taiwan’s sustainable actions. The inaugural edition gathers 30 sustainability solutions, promoting industrial transformation through innovative business models while connecting with the international market. Following this, representatives from the TGB editorial and executive committee shared their insights from various fields: Lin Xin-Bao, Vice President of the Taiwan Design Research Institute, emphasized: “Taiwan should not go it alone but should establish closer cooperation with the international market through a ‘Total Framework’ approach, enabling Taiwan’s green design to gain global recognition.” Wei Qiang, Deputy Director of the NTU Experimental Forest Management Office, stated: “National Taiwan University will fulfill its social responsibility by acting as a key bridge between industry, government, and academia, providing professional support for sustainable technologies.” Ye Yun, Co-CEO of CommonWealth Magazine, highlighted: “THE GREEN BOOK not only advances ESG initiatives among governments and enterprises but also enables SMEs and civil society to participate, unleashing Taiwan’s innovative potential.” Jin Chong-Ren, General Manager of Asia Cement Ready-Mix Concrete, pledged to develop low-carbon concrete with a 30-50% reduction in emissions, supporting the construction industry in achieving Level 1 energy efficiency and near-zero carbon building goals. Qin Xi-Jun, General Manager of Yijun Environmental Technology, emphasized the continued advancement of diaper and marine waste recycling, establishing a traceable and sustainable value supply chain. Xie Huan-Qi, Executive Vice President of U-Tex, shared that the company focuses on agricultural waste recycling, developing Taiwan’s pineapple leaf regeneration technology to drive circular economy initiatives under “TEAM TAIWAN.” These innovative solutions demonstrate Taiwanese enterprises’ breakthroughs in green technology, providing the government and industry with new, viable directions for sustainable transformation. Expanding International Cooperation Wei Ming-Cong, Representative of TGB’s International Affairs Development Group and Chairman of the Chinese Youth Growth Foundation, stated that the "Okinawa Declaration", co-created by youth from 30 countries in 2024, has been incorporated into THE GREEN BOOK and will be presented at COP29 Climate Summit on the global stage. Stéphane Peden, CEO of the French Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan, remarked: “We aim to attract more international green enterprises to Taiwan by offering policy incentives and resources, helping businesses align more quickly with global sustainability standards and mitigating the impact of the EU’s carbon tariffs.” Duan Jia-Wei, Chairman of Allianz Global Investors Taiwan, explained: “Through investment and financial products, we can support high-quality Taiwanese companies in going public, attracting international capital inflows, and strengthening financial backing for sustainable development.” He added that TGB provides an international platform for Taiwan’s sustainability efforts, citing Taiwan’s oil reed restoration project, which has already been promoted in Germany to showcase Taiwan’s biodiversity value. Wu Ting-An, Deputy General Manager of Spring Pool Glass, emphasized: “The circular economy is not just about environmental protection; it is also key to material reuse and economic development. We hope the government will further support circular materials and establish a more comprehensive industrial ecosystem.” Zhang Liang-Ling, CEO of Choice International, stressed: “A fully circular economy is the core of future industrial development. We are committed to developing the world’s most eco-friendly laundry detergent and plan to expand into the global market. We hope for greater policy support and market connections.” Government Recognition and Future Plans He Zhi-Wei, Deputy Secretary-General of the Presidential Office, concluded: “TGB has elevated Taiwan’s green economy to the global stage and has introduced innovative solutions that deserve government support.” This visit strengthened TGB’s collaboration with government agencies and showcased Taiwan’s potential in sustainable development. Moving forward, TGB will continue promoting the TGB Store Green Exhibition, bringing Taiwan’s innovative green solutions to the world stage.
